Comedian Ed Gamble entertained a packed Shanklin Theatre with his Hot Diggity Dog show, which fell foul of Transport for London’s advertising ban on junk food. Support from Chloe Petts got the audience laughing with her stories about Crystal Palace Football Club and hatred of seagulls.
Gamble, who weaves his experience of Type 1 diabetes into the narrative, found fun with Aaron, a ‘head of year’ teacher from Ventnor, and his partner, Natasha, who works in a Newport school. He also enjoyed some banter with retail worker, Becks, who explained that ‘G’Nard’ was a posh part of the Island.
Ed’s routine included his views on air-fryers, getting married to someone with IBS, his wife wanting a cat, and joining a WhatsApp group in the street where he lived. His routine also shared stories of his honeymoon in Las Vegas, where he and his wife visited a French-sounding Elvis chapel to renew their vows after three days of marriage. He recounted, “as a Christian”, his experience of the seven deadly sins and a pizza, with a visit to the NHS thrown in for good measure.
Noting that every three years he would do something that he previously ridiculed, Ed finished by saying he’d be back in three years’ time.
Shanklin Theatre is busy preparing for their second ‘Ed-liner’ of the week, when Ed Byrne takes the stage later tonight (Friday).
