National Apprenticeship Week – Celebrating our apprentices

National Apprenticeship Week (February 5 to 11) is to celebrate the invaluable contributions of apprenticeships, both to individual careers and the economic growth of businesses.

The week recognises the achievements of apprentices, employers, and training providers who contribute to the success of apprenticeship programmes. It also aims to raise awareness about the benefits of apprenticeships, and inspire individuals to consider an apprenticeship for their professional development.

Apprenticeships are a proven way to gain hands-on experience while earning a wage. The unique blend of practical training and theoretical knowledge equips apprentices with the skills needed to excel in their chosen field. As the demand for specialized skills continues to rise, apprenticeships have become an integral part of work-force development.

One of the key advantages of apprenticeships is their adaptability to a wide range of industries. From traditional trades, like carpentry and plumbing, to fields such as technology and healthcare, apprenticeships offer a diverse array of opportunities. And contrary to what some people think, these days everybody who wants to gain new employment skills can apply for an apprenticeship. You have to be out of education and 16 or over – there is no upper age limit.

Employers can benefit significantly from apprenticeship initiatives, with 95 to 100 per cent of training costs paid by the government for small employers. By investing in apprenticeship programmes, businesses can tailor the skills of their workforce to meet their specific needs, both for new employees or to up-skill an existing member of staff.

Whether you are an apprentice, embarking on a journey of learning and growth, or an employer committed to nurturing talent, this week is a time to celebrate the power of apprenticeships.

A real job, with bespoke training and support from HTP

An Apprenticeship is a real job. You’ll work full-time, in a proper company, doing a proper job, and earning a salary, whilst learning at the same time.

You’ll spend some of your working week completing ‘off-the job training’. Often this is at your place of work, but sometimes you’ll come to one of HTP's campuses, too. You’ll get to meet other apprentices and share experiences and insights with each other, as well as learning vital new skills to help supercharge your career.

As long as you’re aged 16 or over, not in full-time education and spend 50% or more of your working week in England you can become an apprentice. Find out more at htp.ac.uk/apprenticeships.
