The Isle of Wight’s edition of the global classic car charity drive, Voyage Des Vectis, part of the Distinguished Gentlemen’s Drive, took place on September 29.
After a hearty bacon bap breakfast, a full entry of 40 classic cars left Newclose Cricket Ground to follow a scenic drive around the Island.
All participants were invited to ‘dress dapper’, and prizes were awarded to the best dressed, along with a ‘Concours D’elegance’ award, which the judges chose from the stunning line-up of historic vehicles. All vehicles in The Distinguished Gentlemen’s Drive must be built before December 31, 1984.
On their return to Newclose, entrants and their passengers enjoyed a delicious traditional cream tea.
A total of £6,245 was raised for men’s health charities, to carry out research into prostate cancer and supporting men’s mental health. One driver, Hugh Crabtree, raised over £1,000 in sponsorship.
Jonathan Braim, primary host for the event, said: “It was such a privilege enjoying the company of fellow classic car enthusiasts, united in raising awareness and funds in support of men’s physical and mental health! Thank you to all those who participated from the drivers to our supporters and sponsors – it was immensely rewarding and fun!”
