Charity cycling event returns to Isle of Wight in aid of Brain Tumour Research

A community cycling event, inspired by the loss of five friends to brain cancer, will return to the Island this summer.

The Brain Tumour Research Ride For Hope, now in its ninth year, brings cyclists together to raise funds and awareness for Brain Tumour Research.

The event was founded by Simon Tier, 58, from Fareham, who has raised more than £100,000 for the charity after losing five friends to brain cancer since 2014.

Simon said the ride was “for them, and for everyone still fighting”, but added that more riders were urgently needed, with participant numbers lower than in previous years.

Cyclists can choose from several routes, including the 68-mile Vectis Gladiator, the 100-mile Vectis Centurion and the 136-mile Vectis Gladiator Dual.

Letty Greenfield, of Brain Tumour Research, said: “Every participant plays a crucial role in helping to drive forward research and bring hope to those affected by this devastating disease.”
