Auction of painting says ‘thank you’ for the love

Sue and her late husband, Bob

An artist, who fell in love with painting just three years ago, is auctioning a special piece to raise funds for Mountbatten.

Sue Hyslop, 74, is supporting Mountbatten after the hospice cared for her husband of 56 years, Robert – known by everyone as Bob.

Bob had Parkinson’s disease, and became increasingly less mobile and would sit, with Sue, while she painted. He died at the hospice in November and the piece up for auction was one of the very last Sue painted with him by her side.

The special painting

“Hopefully we can raise as much as possible,” said Sue. “The care Bob received from every single member of Mountbatten staff and volunteers was outstanding and helped us so very much.

“Mountbatten has so much love, compassion and exceptional care which was and continues to a great comfort to myself and all of our family.

“The painting is one I recreated from an original, which we both loved as it took us back to cuddles with our children and grandchildren and brightened our days.

“This being one of the last, with Bob by my side, is very special to me and although I struggle to part with it, if the auction helps Mountbatten to support other families with their love and care as they did for us, it’s just a small way to repay them and to say ‘thank you so very much’.”
