A 15-year-old St John Ambulance volunteer from the Isle of Wight has won a role as one of the top St John Ambulance cadets in the health charity’s Hampshire & Isle of Wight region.

Louise, who lives in Godshill, scooped the title of the region’s 2024 Hampshire & Isle of Wight District Cadet of the Year in a recent competition. She will now represent her fellow cadets throughout 2024 at public and St John Ambulance events.

In a competition designed to single out the most outstanding St John Ambulance cadet, Louise had to complete a first aid challenge to demonstrate her life saving abilities and take part in a team building exercise as well as give a presentation and be interviewed by judges.

Louise said: “It was a huge surprise and honour to be selected, particular having been the first Island cadet to have the honour for the first time in a long time!”

She will join several other cadets to compete for the title of overall Regional Cadet of the Year and National Cadet of the Year.

Louise attends the Newport All Services Unit. Having just completed her silver award, demonstrating proficiency in eight subjects, she now aims to complete her gold award throughout 2024.

Outside of St John Ambulance, Louise attends The Bay School in Sandown as a Year 11 student. She is currently studying a range of subjects, including art, photography, history and politics and citizenship. In the future she aims to become a paramedic, and attain a T level in health.
