Appeal to identify cyclists who gave first aid assistance to man in Alverstone

Police are appealing to identify two cyclists who made attempts to save a man’s life in Alverstone.

They were called shortly after 2pm on Thursday 1 February with concerns raised for the welfare of a 25 year-old man on the Sunshine Trail cycle track, off Alverstone Road. Despite the best efforts of emergency services and members of the public, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

His family has been informed about his unexpected death and a file is being prepared for the coroner. At this time there is not suspected to be any third party involvement in his death.

Police enquiries are ongoing, and it is known that two cyclists, a male and a female, made commendable efforts to save the man’s life. At this time these two people have not been identified, and the police are encouraging the cyclists to contact them.
