As part of Anti-Bullying Week Ryde Academy students trained to become Anti-Bullying Ambassadors with The Diana Award, which is supported by the Dukes of Cambridge and Sussex.
An Anti-Bullying Ambassador is someone who has been trained by The Diana Award Anti-Bullying Campaign. Their role is to help educate their peers on bullying, lead on anti-bullying campaigns, promote a culture which celebrates and tolerates difference and help keep their peers safe both online and offline.
Following their training students Freya Cowell, 13, Benson Hardy, 13, Chloe-Leigh Caller, 12, Nathan Watts, 14, Luca Patchett, 12 and Ethan Wolfe, 14, launched their action plan to raise awareness of bullying in schools, online and in the community.
The students also shared their plans with the Academy’s Parent and Community Advisory Board and local Primary school headteachers and created and led assemblies so they could talk about their work with their peers.
The student’s work was recently recognised at the Isle of Wight Safeguarding conference where they won an anti-bullying award in the ‘Pupil Initiative’ category. Freya Cowell, Anti-Bullying Ambassador Lead said: “I am an anti-bullying ambassador because I know how hard it can be to speak about bullying. We want to be there for anyone who wants to talk to us and help promote anti bullying and wellbeing”.
