A bigger charity shop in Ryde for the RSPCA

The RSPCA Isle of Wight is set to open the doors of its new charity shop at 38 High Street, Ryde, on Monday.

Replacing their smaller premises across the road, the new shop promises a wider range of items in a well-curated retail space.

Branch director, Steve Backhouse, explained: “The income from our shops is critical to funding our work. Purchasing this larger space, made possible by a generous legacy donation, allows us to reduce overheads and increase fundraising potential.”

Completely independent from the national RSPCA, the Isle of Wight branch relies heavily on local shop purchases, donations, and legacies, to support its annual costs of nearly £1 million. Last year alone, the organisation cared for more than 400 animals, including dogs, cats, rabbits, and wildlife.

The charity shop will join those in Newport, Sandown, and Ventnor, which collectively provide a third of the branch’s funding. Customers can look forward to a much larger selection of items, with all proceeds contributing to the care and rescue of Island animals in need.

Steve added: “We encourage everyone to stop by, pick up a bargain, and help a worthy cause. Donations of quality goods and volunteers to help out in the shop are also always welcome.”
