Youngsters invited to take part in Isle be Active cycle challenge

Island youngsters are being invited to sign up to the Council’s Isle Be Active junior cycle challenge, with a chance to win monthly prizes.

The challenge has been organised by the council’s Sports Unit and runs from August through to October, with prize draws each month for taking part.

Children and young people taking part can record the number of miles or time spent cycling each day or week using a specially produced chart, complete with gold stickers. Once the chart has been filled in, those participating should take a picture showing miles or time spent on the bike and email it to by the 5th of the following month to be in with the chance to win a prize.

Alec Broome, Sports Unit Officer, said: “We are launching our junior cycle challenge to kick off the summer holidays and with the weather looking warm, there’s never been a better time to get your family out for a gentle bike ride in the sun.

“You don’t have to cycle every day: the aim is to get out on your bikes and enjoy yourself. The Isle of Wight has a number of family friendly cycle paths that are just perfect for this challenge and we look forward to seeing how many combined miles and time Island youngsters put in over the coming months.”

To register for the junior cycling challenge and receive a cycle chart and gold stickers, simply get in contact with your name, address and how many packs you need via email at, by phone (01983) 823818 or through the Sports Unit facebook page at @iwsportsunit .
