Island grant-giving charity WightAID is marking its tenth year by asking local good causes a simple question – how can it help?

The organisation is inviting charities and community groups across the Isle of Wight to share details of projects they are planning, and apply for funding to support them.

WightAID ended 2025 by awarding more than £10,000 to two Island causes – £9,950 to Seaview Sailing Trust and £400 to Brighstone Primary School. It now hopes to continue that support throughout 2026, and is also keen to hear from individuals and businesses who would like to contribute to its funds.

Geoff Underwood, WightAID founder, said: “WightAID is dedicated to supporting local Isle of Wight charities. Our unique model ensures that every pound raised on the Island stays on the Island, directly supporting local causes, groups, and community projects. Now everyone is settled back in for this year; hopefully they are starting to think about their upcoming projects, and we would love to hear from you.”

WightAID offers grants ranging from £250 to £10,000 and during 2025 distributed £71,106 to 41 organisations.

Seaview Sailing Trust will use its funding towards two new toilet and changing containers as part of its mission to offer sailing experiences to Isle of Wight primary schoolchildren. The containers, planned for the Sea View Yacht Club boat park, on the Duver, include an additional changing room and an accessible toilet and shower facility.

Brighstone Primary School received £400 towards a three-day residential trip to London for Year 6 pupils.

The next grant round is in March, with applications needing to be submitted by the end of February via the WightAID website.
