Ventnor’s U-11 mixed football team, the Vikings, began their season with a well-earned draw and a fresh sense of purpose.
The team grew out of last year’s newly-formed U-10s squad, created by local parents after a group of football-mad boys found themselves without a team. With support from Ventnor Football Club, they built one from scratch. Despite a tough first season, the players stuck together, showing resilience and team spirit to conquer every challenge.
Now entering their second year, the Vikings have welcomed new players and are led by a team of volunteer coaches, committed to helping them develop. The squad returned to the pitch with sharpened skills and a renewed determination to prove how far they’ve come.
A standout feature, this season, is their smart new kit, custom-designed by one of the players and sponsored by Stubbings Bros, which has given the team a boost of pride and team spirit. The Ventnor-based family business, which supplies and services machinery for gardeners, farmers and holiday parks, stepped in to support the team. “It was a real pleasure to support the Ventnor Vikings youth team, with their new kit, and see them look the part,” said Dave, from Stubbings Bros.
The team members all expressed their thanks to Ventnor Football Club and Stubbings Bros for their amazing support over their first year. The young Vikings are already off the mark and looking ahead to the rest of the season.
