Highlights of an action-packed cup weekend saw hat-tricks from Shanklin’s Lewis Parsons, Brading veteran, Dan Vale, Bembridge’s Michael Brown, Newport’s Ryleigh Wain and Bembridge’s Jack Carter. There was a penalty shoot-out at East Cowes Sports, a Wessex Win for Newport, and a hard-earned draw for Wight Eagles.
Cups
Two goals from Liam Reynolds saw Brading Reserves win 2-1 away at Cranborne in the Hampshire Vase. The Romans came back from 1-0 down at the break, and sub Reynolds netted twice in the final 15 minutes to secure a place in the next round.
In the Challenge Cup, a hat-trick from Lewis Parsons, and 1 from Alfie Flux, saw Shanklin progress after beating Ventnor 4-1 at the County Ground. Ventnor’s Antony Kettell scored from a spot-kick, after ref, Andy Doncaster, awarded a foul against Shanklin’s Ben Gregory, who was yellow-carded along with team-mate, Seth Arnold. Ventnor keeper, Blaise Franklin, had an outstanding match.
Brading won 9-1 away at Oakfield, with 5 goals from Dan Vale, Josh Collins (2), sub Aaron Bennett, and Caleb Dyer. Nicholas Gregory netted for Oakfield in the first half.
Bembridge & Vectis won 6-0 away at Northwood, with 3 goals from Michael Brown, Sam Kirby (2), and Aaron Shepherd on target.
In the Memorial Cup, Sandown & Lake won 5-4 on penalties away at East Cowes Sports, after the match ended 1-1. Shay Dixon was on target for Sandown, and Shaun Gulliver equalised in the last minute of the match.
East Cowes Vics Res won 4-2 away at Newchurch, with goals from Macauley Barnes (2), Connor Furmidge, and Harry Collier, with consolation strikes from Aaron Doncaster and Joe Boakes.
Niton won 5-2 away at Pan, with first-half goals from Sam Hatton (2), Lewis Evans, Tom Brownrigg’s penalty, and Ollie McLoughlin.
Newport Res won 7-3 at home to Seaview, with a hat-trick from Ryleigh Wain, a Josh Gwilliam double, and 1 apiece for Robbie Shepherd and Ash Gulliver. Fin Armstrong, Marcus Pyle and Brandon Smith replied for the visitors.
Binstead COB triumphed 6-0 away at Ryde Saints, with 2 goals each for Daz Powell and Zak Sullivan, and 1 apiece for Matt Walter and Cian McGee.
In the Junior B Cup, Bembridge & Vectis A won 6-0 away at Ventnor A, with a Harry Faulkner hat-trick, 2 from George Fletcher, and 1 from Dan Hope.
IW Division One and Combinations One and Two
Leaders, Whitecroft & Barton, won 3-1 at home to Cowes Sports Res, with Fin Kalaker giving W&B the first-half lead, adding a second after the break along with Harry Green.
Second-placed West Wight won 3-0 away at High Park, in Division One, with first-half goals from Ash Brett and Chris Elliott, and a second-half strike from Robbie Simmonds.
In Combination One, leaders W&B Reserves won 3-0 away at Shanklin Res, after a goal-less first half due to brave keeping from Shanklin’s Matt Manning. After the break, former Shanklin player, Kyle Drew, opened the scoring, with Luke Bennett and Theo Appell adding to the score-line.
Ventnor Res won 3-1 at home to East Cowes Sports Res, after a goal-less first half. Goals from Jason Kennett (2) and sub, Euan Sargent, secured the points.
West Wight Res won 5-0 at home to Sandown & Lake Res, with first-half goals from Josh Craig and Jude Millar, with 2 goals from Jordan Flynn and 1 from Taylor Simmonds after the break.
Osborne Coburg Res won 6-4 at home to Oakfield Res, with a Jack Carter hat-trick, and 1 apiece from Isheanesu Goredema, Redford Cotton, and Jack Summers.
Bembridge & Vectis Res beat High Park Res 4-1, with 2 goals from Thoe Sampson and 1 each from Lewis Parker-Meadows and sub, Liam Rowley.
In Combination Two, 3 goals from Sam Hart helped see Binstead COB Res win 9-3 at home to Ryde Saints Res. Liam Lock, Dan Mew, Tom Woodhouse (2), Tyler Thorne and sub, Dan Murphy, completed the scoring for the buoyant Binmen.
West Wight A narrowly beat Newchurch Res 3-2, with sub, Niall Harris, scoring in the first half, and Adam Millar and Ben Winton scoring in the last 15 minutes.
Leaders, High Park A, won 6-1 away at Sandown & Lake A, who scored through Sam Carter-Knight.
Wessex
In the Premier Division, Cowes lost 4-0 away at Brockenhurst, and then lost 5-0 under floodlights at home to AFC Stoneham midweek. The visitors were 2-0 up at the break, scoring a third and fourth from the spot on the hour. They scored a fifth just before the final whistle, with skipper, Ryan Oatley, recognised for a dedicated performance.
Vics lost 3-1 at home to Millbrook, with a consolation strike from Josh Neale in the second half.
Division One’s Newport secured a much-deserved 2-1 home win over Alresford Town, with goals from Joe Butcher and Michael Thompsett.
Hants Women’s
Wight Eagles secured a much-merited 2-2 home draw against a strong Winchester City Flyers team, with Daisy-Boo Chapman getting a goal in each half to earn a point and see the Eagles in sixth place.
