The Island’s maritime heritage was marked last week when the chairman of the IW Council attended the Royal National Lifeboat Institution’s latest board meeting in East Cowes.

The meeting provided an opportunity to review recent rescues, fund-raising activity, and the efforts of the charity’s dedicated crews.

Cllr Dore said it was an honour to attend the event and to personally thank those who give their time to save others.

He described the RNLI as a symbol of “selflessness, bravery and community,” praising volunteers as “ordinary people doing extraordinary things.” He added that their work was humbling and that Islanders should be proud of the dedication shown in often challenging conditions.

The RNLI, supported by donations, continues to rely on the commitment of its volunteer crews, fund-raisers and supporters, who play a vital role in keeping seafarers safe.
