The Isle of Wight Council has launched a new campaign to encourage households to check their waste and recycling habits.
The #BackToBinBasics initiative is reminding residents to follow the guidelines set out in their collection booklet and on the council website.
Food waste, recycling and general waste should be put out at the kerbside by 7am on collection day, or after 7pm the evening before. Crews can work until 10pm, and missed bins can be reported on the council website.
Recycling and waste are collected on alternate weeks, with food waste taken weekly. Green bins or sacks are for mixed recycling such as glass, plastic and metal, while the black insert or blue gull sack is for paper and card.
Extra recycling will be accepted if placed in clear or white bags, but extra general waste will not be collected. Contaminated bins will be tagged and must be corrected before the next collection.
Residents are asked to return bins by 7pm the following day to avoid obstruction on pavements. Free food caddies and replacement containers can be ordered at https://iw.observer/wasterecycling or by calling 823777.
