Upset Freshwater residents raise planning concerns

Peter Sink speaking at the meeting

Freshwater residents were given a chance to have their say on proposals for three developments in the West Wight, at a public meeting at the Memorial Hall on Tuesday.

The proposed Freshwater developments are at Heathfield Farm camp which includes 57 residential dwellings, 12 residential flats and retail space, building plans for land to the east of Birch Close and north of Solent Gardens, and a residential development of 127 dwellings and access roads at Camp Road.

Among those voicing their concerns was Hannah Bartlett, who was worried about the ecological assessment conducted on both the Heathfield Road and Camp Road sites. She highlighted the absence of critical reports, including bats, reptile and dormice surveys, which she believes are essential before any further action is taken. Various residents pointed out noise and light pollution, a lack of NHS dentists with the proposed closure of mydentist in Freshwater, Brookside Medical Centre being overwhelmed, geology surveys and road safety.

IW Councillor, Peter Spink, who represents Freshwater North & Yarmouth, was in the audience, and said he would be applying for the matter to be determined by the IW Council Planning Committee, rather than a planning officer.

Public consultation has ended, and the statutory decision date is Monday, October 28.
