This weekend, the grounds of Wolverton Manor will once again play host to the much-loved Wolverton Garden Fair – one of the Island’s longest-running community events, raising funds for local charities while offering two full days of family entertainment.
From Saturday morning, visitors will be welcomed into the gardens with an array of sights and sounds, from Elizabethan dancers performing in the Manor to falcons swooping over the moat field, and a whole programme of magic, music, and dog-friendly activities.
The fun begins at 11am on Saturday, in the Hare Garden, with demonstrations from Ability Dogs 4 Young People, while inside the Manor, Elizabethan dancing and singing will take place throughout the day, recreating the sights and sounds of centuries past.
At 11.30am the action moves to the Country & Moat Field, where SBW Raptor Falconry will showcase their magnificent birds of prey. At noon, the Manor Lawn provides the stage for David Randini’s “Magic Moments”, bringing family-friendly tricks and illusions to life.
The afternoon continues with more from Ability Dogs at 1pm, followed by the chance to take part in “Have A Go Dog Agility” at 1.30pm. The falcons return at 2pm, while 15 minutes later the popular “Barking Mad” display team will take over the Moat Field.
One of the weekend highlights comes at 3pm with the Fun Dog Show, featuring novelty classes guaranteed to raise smiles. David Randini returns at 3.30pm with a traditional Punch and Judy show, before the day rounds off with Elizabethan dancing on the Manor Lawn at 4pm – with visitors encouraged to join in.
Sunday’s programme follows a similar pattern, but with some special additions. Ability Dogs 4 Young People will again open the day at 11am in the Hare Garden, alongside more Elizabethan music and dance inside the Manor. At 11.30am the falconry display begins in the Moat Field, and at noon David Randini is back with more magic.
The afternoon builds with dog agility at 1.30pm, and another falconry display at 2pm. At 2.15pm, the Moat Field hosts a second “Barking Mad” group display, while at the same time the Manor Lawn comes alive with live music from local group “Last Orders”.
At 3pm, the Fun Dog Show returns for its second day, followed at 3.30pm by Punch and Judy beside the barns, ensuring families have plenty to enjoy right up until the end of the day.
Alongside the arena events, visitors can explore dozens of stalls spread across the gardens, showcasing local produce, crafts, plants and garden supplies, as well as charity and community displays. A wide range of food and drink outlets will also be on site.
Wolverton Garden Fair has long been known as a dog-friendly event, so visitors are encouraged to bring their four-legged companions – provided they remain on a lead. Dogs are very much part of the weekend, with activities and competitions tailored just for them.
Parking for the event is free, and tickets can be purchased on the door. Admission is £8 for adults, with children under 14 admitted free of charge.
For those travelling by bus, the no. 12 Southern Vectis service stops nearby, with a signposted footpath through the village leading directly to the Manor.
Organisers advise that payment methods for stall holders and activities may vary, so visitors are recommended to bring cash to avoid disappointment.
Whether you are drawn by the history of the Elizabethan Manor, the thrill of falconry, the fun of family magic shows, or simply a stroll around beautiful gardens filled with plants, produce and crafts, Wolverton Garden Fair promises a weekend of traditional enjoyment with something for everyone.
