The High Sheriff ‘Won’t miss wearing tights’

The outgoing High Sheriff of the Isle of Wight, Graham Biss, hosted a heartfelt evening of thanks at Newport Minster on Wednesday evening. The event celebrated the dedication and contributions of those involved in the Island’s voluntary sector during his year of office.

Around 80 attendees enjoyed the event, with delicious Isle of Wight cheese from Briddlesford Farm the centre of attention at the buffet; a mark of Mr Biss’ enthusiastic support of Island food and produce.

The High Sheriff expressed his appreciation for the efforts of all those who had supported the Island’s voluntary organisations during his term of office. He also extended warm thanks to his wife, Sue, for her constant support.

Injecting a touch of humour into the proceedings, he joked that he wouldn’t miss the tradition of wearing tights, bringing laughter from the crowd.

Lord-Lieutenant Susie Sheldon took the opportunity to praise Mr Biss for his exemplary performance in carrying out the ancient role of High Sheriff, to enthusiastic applause.

The evening not only marked the conclusion of Mr Biss’ term of office but also paved the way for a new chapter as Jacque Gazzard prepares to be sworn in as the next High Sheriff on April 7.
