The Community Hall of Yarmouth and District (CHOYD) celebrated the 10th anniversary of its formation on Monday, with a party for around 50 past and present committee members and guests.
Among those attending were Yarmouth Mayor, Debbie McCleary, and CHOYD supporter, Terry Kelsey, who has been a member of the club, formerly The Institute, for 60 years having been introduced by his uncle, who brought him down to play billiards.
Chairman, Adrian Evans, welcomed the guests, saying: “It’s amazing to see how the hall looks today to how it looked a few years ago. Thank you for all your contributions.”
Former Yarmouth Mayor, Steve Cowley, said: “Going back 10 years, the town council took the opportunity to purchase the property for the benefit of the whole community. CHOYD has done just that; it’s been a fantastic journey and the hall is alive and vibrant.
“We have done so much here with new central heating, a kitchen, disabled toilets, carpets and redecoration.
“It’s all thanks to Sylvia Mence for her hard work. Without her contribution we would not be where we are today.”
