Supporting Womens’ Health – Physio Open Day Success

An event for women to find out more about a range of pelvic floor (PF) related problems took place this week.

Following the success of last year’s event, the Isle of Wight NHS Trust’s Pelvic Obstetric and Gynaecological Physiotherapy Team (POGP) invited all women to their open morning at the Laidlaw Day Unit at St Mary’s Hospital on Friday 27th April.

The team was on hand to advise women on various non-surgical treatments and options available for problems such as prolapse, incontinence, irritable bladder and pregnancy related issues and give women the opportunity to meet the team and find out about PF rehabilitation, diet and lifestyle modifications; simple actions which are often very effective in helping to manage symptoms.

Lara Watson, Pelvic Floor Specialist Physiotherapist said: “Symptoms related to the pelvic floor are often very distressing and can impact on a person’s everyday life and for some women, talking about problems like incontinence can be embarrassing, but it is part of real life and women are learning not to accept PF problems as ‘just part of ageing’. We are a friendly, professional team here who support women with managing pelvic floor (PF) related problems everyday.”

There was also representatives from Slimming World, NHS sexual health services, falls prevention and Age UK.
