Glorious sunshine greeted visitors to the Royal Isle of Wight County Show at the weekend, as the Island’s biggest celebration of rural life returned to Northwood Showground for its 124th year.
Despite soaring temperatures, enthusiasm was high across the 37-acre site, with families, farmers, and foodies enjoying everything from livestock displays to artisan crafts and vintage tractors. Organised by the Royal Isle of Wight Agricultural Society (RIWAS), the event showcased the best of Island talent, produce, and community spirit.
The Isle of Wight Observer Main Ring was a hub of activity, featuring the ever-popular Shetland Grand National, the Big Bale Challenge, and the Grand Parade of Champions. Crowds cheered on competitors and enjoyed the entertainment including a parade of hounds and the hobby horse racing – which for some reason did not take place in the Equine Ring.
In the Equine Ring, spectators were treated to thrilling show jumping and other horse activities. The standard was high, with riders from across the Island competing for top honours and to get the title of Supreme or Supreme Reserve Champion, the awards sponsored by The Castle Inn, Newport.
Support from headline sponsors – WightFibre, Lawdit Solicitors and Elite Spas – helped ensure the event remained accessible and enjoyable for all.
From dancing sheep to woodland crafts, and from local food tastings to the Tourism Pavilion, the County Show lived up to its promise of being “a field full of fun.” Highlights from the event support the Rural Careers Fund, helping young Islanders pursue agricultural studies.
