The Island escaped the snow, but only after floods and other incidents had made their mark this week.
Snow and ice were forecast on some parts of the Island on Wednesday, but the conditions, which badly affected some areas of the mainland, failed to materialise.

However, temperatures were expected to drop again last night (Thursday) with Island Roads gritting from 3pm and again at 5am this morning, warning that additional care should be taken on the road network.
Over the weekend, there were three main road closures: Long Lane, near Newport, where a BT pole was knocked down in a traffic accident, and at Southford Lane, Whitwell, and Morton Common, Brading, both due to flooding.
Flood warning signs, indicating the road is passable to most vehicles with care, were also put in place at Warlands Lane, near Shalfleet, Carpenters Road, Brading, Alverstone Road, East Cowes, Briddlesford Road, Wootton, Fairlee Road, Newport, and Ryde Esplanade.
In addition, safety barriers have been put out on Ryde Esplanade following a road traffic incident and at Eastcliff Road, Shankin, and Church Road, Binstead, following the collapse of private walls.
A low-hanging branch also had to be removed from the highway at Newport Road, Apse Heath.

Meanwhile, a set of steps leading in Seaview, between Pier Road Slipway and Seaview High Street collapsed following the recent storms. The steps, parallel with Pier Road, have detached from the sea wall in one piece. The IW Council’s coastal management team has been made aware and will be making repairs.
On Wednesday, Union Road in Ryde, just off the town’s main Union Street, was closed on safety grounds due to the discovery of a void that runs underneath the carriageway.
Southern Water were on site yesterday (Thursday) carrying out repair work after which the road will be reinstated and re-opened.
