A 12-year-old, from Ryde, sold a table full of cakes on Saturday to raise an amazing £660, which she has donated to Island youngster, Tula Hunt, who is battling a rare form of cancer.

Ezzy Freer, a pupil at Lift Ryde, set up her stall at the Ryde Co-op after spending the previous day hard at work baking in the family kitchen.

Her proud dad, Dane, said: “Ezzy has been baking for a couple of years and originally started ‘Ezzy’s Cupcakes and Bakes’ to earn a little bit of pocket money making the treats for family and friends.

“She decided she wanted to do something for charity, and thought that raising money for Tula would be the ideal fund-raiser. We contacted the Co-op and they gave her permission to set up her stall, and also held a tombola for her, with all the money being given to Ezzy to make up her final donation.

“Ezzy spent all day Friday baking and, although she had a little bit of help from the family, she did everything including decorating and icing the cakes.

“We’re thinking of developing the idea for Ezzy and, maybe, setting up a cake shed for her in the future. We’re all very proud of her.”

Ezzy added: “Thank you to everyone who came down and supported me. I hope you enjoy your cakes.”

Tula, 6, from Seaview, a pupil at Nettlestone Primary School, was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of childhood leukaemia at St Mary’s Hospital in January. She is now receiving specialist treatment for Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (AML) at Southampton Children’s Hospital, one of the leading paediatric centres in the UK.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help pay for Tula’s treatment and family expenses as her parents are now staying with her on the mainland.

Her first course of chemotherapy was not successful, and it is hoped she will be able to have a bone marrow transplant. The fund-raising page is available via iw.observer/tula.
