Two Ryde Harriers have put in impressive performances.
Gary Marshall, fresh from a personal best at the Fleet half-marathon, took on the challenging British trail running championships, held in the Forest of Dean. The race tested runners’ endurance on undulating trails, and also served as a selection event for the England age-group teams. Competing in the 40-45 category, Gary ran in the top 20 for much of the race, crossing the finish line 13th overall, with an off-road time of 1 hr 17m 53s. Finishing second in his age category, he secured a silver medal and earned selection to represent England later this year. He’s now preparing for the Salisbury 10-mile race in early April.
Meanwhile, Chris Newnham set a personal best at the Reading half-marathon. With over 6,000 competitors, Chris pushed through a frenetic start and a challenging course to finish 10th overall in 1hr 9m 7s, claiming 3rd place in the 35-39 age category. Chris is now gearing up for his first marathon at the London marathon on April, 27 alongside 56,000 runners.
