A stunning dress, fashioned from recycled plastic and milk bottles, is on show at Dimbola Lodge & Museum, Freshwater Bay, until Friday, August 9.
The gown is designed by Tara Krishna, a student of costume for theatre and screen at the University of the Arts London, Wimbledon College.
It took around 115 milk bottles to create the white panels, beads and flowers on the dress, and dozens of clear plastic bottles to make additional floral embellishments.
The gown was recently featured in the Timebank Eco Fashion Event, held in the West Wight. The idea for the dress stemmed from an eco-refill scheme which encourages people to bring their empty bottles to refill with naturally derived products.
Tara’s design is inspired by the Island’s stunning seascape and flora, and stands as a powerful symbol of environmental awareness and the urgent need to address single-use plastic waste. The aim is for this creation to encourage meaningful discussions for individuals to actively contribute to a greener, more sustainable future. She has previously worked on multiple projects involving recycled materials and natural dyes.
