The Ryde Art Collective, an interdisciplinary group of contemporary artists, has launched its latest exhibition ‘Re-collections’, marking a significant moment in the group’s evolution.
The Collective is the first contemporary visual arts organisation to exhibit at Department since its opening in Ryde earlier this year.
Re-collections will be curated by Lena Evans, a Portsmouth-based independent curator, helping to further build on cross-Solent artistic partnerships.
Bringing together 11 artists – Mandy Bangerter, Zoë Barker, Gill Clarke, Vincent Dupont-Blackshaw, Fran Farrar, Jan Frith, Barbara Gowan, Violet Mareck, Richard May, Karen Mead and Fiona Schindler – the exhibition unfolds across Department’s ground-floor event space and first-floor café landing.
The Collective reflect on how stories and memories – joyful, traumatic, fleeting, or serendipitous – echo across their work.
Through print and painting, photography, sculpture, mixed media, and technology, the exhibition investigates the human condition, revealing how recollection informs both process and outcome.
The exhibition is on now until Saturday, October 11, each Tuesday-Saturday 10am-5.30pm.
