Pupils at Priory School met Joe Robertson when the Isle of Wight East MP visited on Friday.
Mr Robertson spoke to students in Years 9 to 11 about his route into politics and his work in Parliament.
During the session, he discussed issues affecting the Island, including education, housing, the economy and transport. He also shared his views on MPs who change political parties, saying he believed this should automatically lead to a by-election in the constituency concerned.
Students asked questions on a range of topics, including the case for a fixed link to the mainland, the need for more affordable housing, public examination results in Island schools, road and rail improvements, and the decision to divide the Island into two parliamentary constituencies. Staff said Mr Robertson answered openly and engaged positively with the pupils.
The school plans to invite Richard Quigley, MP for Isle of Wight West, to take part in a similar event to share the Government’s perspective on the same issues.
