Police and DVLA operation on Fairlee Road

A joint police and DVLA operation is in progress on Fairlee Road, Newport on Thursday morning (November 15).

Tax and licensing inspections were being carried out at a checkpoint at around 8.50am near the water works on the main road between Newport, Ryde and East Cowes.

Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) vehicles were also parked near to the checkpoint.

Residents posted on the Isle of Wight Community Information Facebook group to say eye tests were being carried out at the checkpoint.

Hampshire Constabulary confirmed that two vehicles have been recovered – one for having no insurance with the other for a tax offence.
