An elderly pensioner is devastated following the death of her pet dog, who ate some poison while being taken for a walk.
Frances Ohlson, of Freshwater, took Lizzie, her 11-year-old border collie, out last Tuesday (September 26). She normally has a choice of a variety of walks, including Golden Hill Fort and Dodpits Lane.
Frances said: “I was walking Lizzie at Golden Hill Fort, so I’m guessing that’s where she ate the poison. She was taken ill shortly afterwards and, when I took her to the vet, he immediately said there was a strong smell of toxic poison on her breath.
“I always watch her closely when we’re out because she picks up little things in her mouth.
“It was such a shock, she had been playing quite happily and now she’s not here. She was my companion and was coming up to her twelfth birthday. I’m devastated; I live on my own and now I’m probably too old to take on another dog.”
Her daughter, Emma, added: “I can’t imagine who would do something like this; it’s just wicked.”
