By Press Release Jun 9, 2023

Long-distance walking duo, Jill Green and Jim Catchpole, of Apse Heath, who have clocked up more than 160 years of life between them, have hung up their walking boots.

Over the last bank holiday weekend they completed their final 100-mile, non-stop, long-distance walk. The walk started in Stratford Upon Avon, calling at 16 checkpoints throughout the Midlands countryside, and was completed within 48 hours with no rest breaks. A total of 430 people took part in the event, who had all walked the 50-mile qualifier. Jill is 81 and this was her 30th walk, while Jim, also aged 81, has now completed his 12th.

In 2007, Jill became a record holder by being the first lady over the age of 60 to walk the Centurion, covering 100 miles on foot in less than 24 hours. Jim also holds a record for completing ten 100-mile walks over the age of 70.

Asked how she felt after completing the challenge, Jill said: “Just because you’re old, it doesn’t mean you have to stop doing things. We rejoice in the fact we can still do this!”

They decided this would be their final epic walk after Jill succeeded in her aim of completing 30 walks
