Medina Marching Band will proudly represent the Isle of Wight at this year’s London band week, joining leading ensembles from across the UK and the United States, in a celebration of music, pageantry, and tradition.
Tomorrow (Saturday), the band will perform for the second time at the London Tattoo, held at ExCeL London. The event will see them share the stage with the world-renowned HM Royal Marines Band, alongside visiting American groups, including the Liberty High School Grenadier Band, the Marching Mizzou Band, and the Carolina Band, as well as some of the UK’s finest marching ensembles.
The celebrations continue on Sunday, with National Marching Music Day, when The Mall will come alive with a vibrant parade set against the iconic backdrop of Buckingham Palace. Precision marching, colourful uniforms, and powerful musical performances will transform the historic route, culminating at Horse Guards Parade.
Medina Marching Band is one of 26 bands taking part, and will be joined by fellow Island group, Vectis Corps of Drums, with both proudly flying the flag for the Island on a national stage.
Chairman, Kevin Downer, said the band is “incredibly proud” to take part once again, particularly during its 50th anniversary year, adding that it is “a tremendous honour” to perform alongside such prestigious and international bands. He added: “We are equally delighted that Vectis Corps of Drums will be joining us on National Marching Music Day. Having two Island bands among the 26 bands taking part in the parade up The Mall is a wonderful achievement, and a fantastic opportunity to showcase the talent, dedication, and community spirit that exists on the Isle of Wight.”
