A food run with a difference has been supported by Wight Wolves motorcyclists, following a charity ride-out which ended in Newport.

The Wolves led their annual ‘Pet Food Run’, in which nearly £800 of pet food was donated to Friends of the Animals, to support the charity’s animals in care.

There were 13 Wolves in a group of 31 people at the event, and they were supported by riders from the Royal British Legion, Inner Demons, and SRC, a group of residents who enjoy motorcycling.

Wight Wolves founder, G Black, said: “We raised £785 for 330 tins of dog food; 234 pouches of cat food; 18 bags of dry dog food and three boxes of dog treats.

“We were also able to donate two bags of bowls, bedding, and collars, for assorted pets totalling more than 600 items.

“Big thanks to Simply Jaspers at Spithead Business Centre, Lake, where we started the ride-out; they gave us some big discounts and, also, thanks to our club secretary ‘Mike the Bike’, who did most of the work and liaising with Friends of the Animals to make this happened!”

G added: “We are currently raising money to help a little dog called Archie, who was rescued by Friends of the Animals from a rather nasty puppy farm on the mainland.

“His skin was red raw, sore, and unbearably itchy, but, thanks to some loving care, he’s much better. However, he needs an operation on both knees which could cost around £6,000.

“We are doing another Just Giving group to try and raise some money to hopefully gain contributions towards the operations he is going to need and people can follow the Wight Wolves page on Facebook.”
