Kay learns about aviation on her final day in office

By Press Release Apr 7, 2023

High Sheriff, Kay Marriott, was given a guided tour of the reopened Wight Aviation Museum on her last day in office at the weekend by museum chairman, Helen Blake.

The museum, based at Sandown Airport, celebrates the Island’s history in aviation which spans from building the earliest aircraft in the 1910s to giant seaplanes, fighter jet aircraft and space rockets.

Kay learned about extraordinary Island people, such as the late Mary Ellis, who flew multiple fighter aircraft from the factories to the RAF airfields during WW2.

She also got a chance to take the controls of the museum’s Beagle Bulldog aircraft, using the latest in VR technology for a ‘virtual flight’ around the Island.

The museum, run by volunteers, is open Saturday to Tuesday, between 10am-3pm, until the end of October.
