On Sunday, 202 distance runners set off from the IW Community Club, in Cowes, on the Isle of Wight Marathon.
Joshua Price, of IW Road Runners (IWRR), last year’s champion, led from the start. He held his advantage to the tape, recording a time of 2h 49m 9s. It was only his fourth Marathon, having already won over the distance earlier this year in Bath.
Ed Fuller, from Edenbridge in Kent, was in second place, with Dean Harris, from Chineham, in third and Tomas Frigstad, from Farnham, fourth.
In his first official Marathon, Louis Forster of Vectis Academy was 5th in 3h 14m 13s, but smashed the Junior Men’s record by 26 minutes.
Davina Brown, Bideford AC, was first lady home in 3h 36m 5s, second was Jackie Casey, from Yeovil, with Emma Moreton, from Shepperton, close behind. Island resident, Hayley Baxter, of IWRR, was placed fourth in 3h 50m 49s.

In the battle for the men’s team trophy, Isle of Wight Road Runners took the first two slots, with Ryde Harriers third. The winning trio of IWRR was Joshua Price, Ashley Crabbe and Nick Kenney. IWRR also won the women’s team prize with Hayley Baxter, Zoe Sherwin and Abigail Keyte. West Wight Road Runners were runners-up with IWRR third.
Sixty years ago, Scottish runner, Dale Greig, set a female World Record of 3h 27m 25s in the IW Marathon. Her feat was recognised on medals presented to all finishers after this weekend’s race.
