Christ the King College has been rated ‘good’ in four of out five Ofsted categories, but has remained rated as ‘Requires Improvement’ following its latest inspection.
The Quality of Education category has not improved from its ‘Requires Improvement’ rating in July 2021, although Personal Development is now Good, along with Behaviour and Attitudes, Leadership and Management and Sixth Form Provision.
Headteacher, Mr Andrew Montrose, said: “Ofsted has recognised and acknowledged the improvements we have made in all areas of school life since our last inspection.
“Whilst we are disappointed with (and sceptical of) the ‘Requires Improvement’ judgement, overall there is a palpable positivity amongst the staff and students.
“We are particularly pleased that Ofsted continue to acknowledge both our great Sixth Form provision, and also the wide and varied aspects of school life which make Personal Development another strength here at Christ the King.”
The Ofsted visit was at the end of November, and the results have only just been published because the school lodged a formal complaint because leaders disagreed with the overall outcome. Ofsted did not uphold any of the points complained of.
Positive comments made by the inspection team during their visit included: Safeguarding is effective, there is a well-designed curriculum, students behave well – students say behaviour has improved and there is a clear system of addressing disruptive behaviour.
However, inspectors found that delivery of the curriculum is inconsistent and in some cases pupils are not supported to develop their understanding of important ideas, the attendance of some pupils remains low and teachers need to consider pupils’ different starting points in their learning.
