By Isle of Wight ObserverHovertravel and Wightlink added more October woe on their passengers with further failures on their cross-Solent services today (Saturday).
Hovertravel has suspended its Saturday Ryde-Southsea service this afternoon.
The sross-Solent operator has announced that services have been cancelled once again due to technical reasons. The problem has left Hovertravel’s service dependent on one craft: Island Flyer.
That’s because Solent Flyer is still at Southampton having remedial work. It is not clear when Solent Flyer will be ready to resume crossings or when a normal service will resume.
At Yarmouth, Wightlink said its Saturday services were delayed by up to 45 minutes this afternoon (October 27).
A problem that has been blighting the service much of the week – dubbed by Wightlink as “a mechanical issue with an essential piece of equipment” – is still proving troublesome.
Wightlink asked travellers to continue to check in on time and apologised for any changes to travel plans.
But Saturday’s issues merely continues the trend with October proving a dreadful month for Wightlink, Hovertravel and, of course, Red Funnel, whose Red Falcon car ferry ran aground last Sunday after colliding with moored yachts while heading into Cowes.
