Arrest after post-crash Newport manhunt

A three-car crash on Friday evening (October 26) led to a flurry of police activity and a man was arrested after the scrambling of the National Police Air service helicopter.

The driver of a Peugeot 307 reportedly collided with a police car before crashing into a Ford Fiesta on Burnt House Lane, Newport, shortly after 5pm during the evening commute.

Police and ambulance crews rushed to the crash site, near Little Pan Farm, and a woman and a child were taken to St Mary’s Hospital.

One of the drivers invovled fled the scene and policed called for airborne assistance as they searched to find him.

Little more than an hour after the collision, at approximately 6.15pm, he was tracked down and arrested.
