Holmes at home in Shanklin

By Press Release Nov 23, 2022

An appreciative audience was enthralled by an evening of sleuthing when Arthur Conan Doyle’s Hound of the Baskervilles was performed as a radio play live on Shanklin Theatre’s stage by an engaging and thrilling cast.

Terry Molloy from the Archers provided a narrative as Dr Watson, complementing the thoughtful Sherlock Holmes, portrayed by former Dr Who, Colin Baker. Sherlock ensured that when “the game was afoot”, the pace and intrigue of the production kept the audience on the edge of their seats.

With choreographed sound effects bringing the moors to the Shanklin stage and the horse and carriage feel of Baker Street, where Holmes lives at 221b, the 120-year-old story was timeless, with Dee Sadler’s appearance adding to the quality of the cast, and the originality of the performance. The telling of the tale, complete with red herrings and “elementary” clues, left the audience looking forward to a return in the future.

The tour, timed to celebrate the 120th anniversary of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s popular thriller, choosing to tread the boards in Shanklin reflects the continued growing profile and reputation of Shanklin Theatre nationally.
