This September, a Brading man, cared for by Mountbatten Isle of Wight, will be remembered through a fund-raising running challenge, being taken on by his firefighter son.
West Sussex-based Dan Game will run 270km (168 miles) over 27 days to raise money for the charity, completing 27 10k (6 1/5-mile) runs from September 1, and finishing on what would have been his dad’s birthdayDan’s dad, John Game, retired to the Isle of Wight with his wife, Linda. Both were cared for by Mountbatten Isle of Wight’s community team.
Eighteen months after his dad’s death, Dan hopes to give back to the hospice by raising £2,700.
Dan said: “Dad would say I am mad to take on 27 ten kilometre runs in just 27 days. He would have told me there are other ways to raise money, but I like a challenge!
“The Mountbatten staff, who cared for Dad before he died, were just incredible. He wanted to be at his home, and they made sure this happened, setting up everything he needed to stay comfortable. They treated him with love and care.”
Most of Dan’s miles will be clocked up through runs around work and dog walks, with his final route an official 10km run through Barns Green, Sussex, on Sunday, September 27.
Dan will record his achievements on Strava, and has already raised nearly £700 towards his target.
