Green Baroness thinks candidate Vix Lowthion would be a ‘great MP’

The latest visitor to the Island to endorse a local candidate was Green Party baroness, Jenny Jones, who visited Ryde on Sunday.

After a private meeting in Ryde Castle, with leaders of the Wightlink User Group, Jenny chatted to the Isle of Wight Observer about a range of issues, including our ferry services. She also insisted the Green Party is still relevant, and their representatives encourage other parties to be brave, criticising the Conservative government over its stance on immigration (which she believes is not too high), and praised Vix Lowthion’s credentials and commitment to represent Islanders in parliament.

She then took a short trip down to Appley Beach to meet Green Party supporters and campaigners. In 2023, over 38,000 hours of sewage was released into Island waters, but Southern Water has not been fined in relation to any of the discharges. The Green Party is the only party standing on the Island with a policy to put the water companies back into public ownership.

Vix thanked Baroness Jones of Moulsecoomb for visiting, and added: “The Green vote on the Island has been in the top three seats in the country. I have every confidence that we will have the highest number of Green Party MPs elected this year, and I hope to stand up for Islanders in parliament alongside them too.”

If you’d like to know more about the Green Party policies, you can attend a “Hear from Vix” event tomorrow (Saturday), and listen to her plans for IW East and ask questions. All are welcome to Fubar (Bar74) on Union Street, Ryde on from 3.30pm.
