The Freshwater, Yarmouth and Totland (FYT) Bus has launched a new afternoon timetable and is keen to attract users of all ages to use the service.

Lord-Lieutenant, Susie Shelden, unveiled the new FYTbus bookable on afternoon service at a presentation at the West Wight Sports & Community Centre. She recalled a similar event 12 years ago when FYTbus started, and another, in 2016, when the organisation was awarded the Queen’s Award for Voluntary service, while applauding the efforts of the volunteers and the importance of the service which it offers to local people.

Isle of Wight MP, Bob Seely, also spoke about the importance of maintaining local public transport services.

FYTbus CEO, Bob Lombardelli, said: “The service is open to all. A lot of younger people seem to think it’s for the elderly, but anyone can use it. We also have an innovative app-based booking system which is being rolled out.”

Details can be found on the FYTbus website or on its printed timetables which will be sent to every household on the West Wight in the coming weeks. This also includes details of other regular routes, hospital and shopping trips and special offers.

The service is free to children under 14 years and holders of free bus passes. Residents of PO39, PO40 or PO41 can apply for a free FYTpass which will entitle them to a £1 fare on scheduled services instead of the standard fare of £2.50.

Bookings can be made using the FYTbus App. Get it using the QR code, or via iow.life/fytbus, or call the FYTbus office on 752917.
