Island Nature is inviting Isle of Wight businesses to a free lunchtime seminar later this month, aimed at helping organisations make simple, practical changes that support wildlife and contribute to the Island’s nature recovery goals.

The event, ‘How to be a Business for Biodiversity in the Biosphere’, takes place on Wednesday, January 21 at Quay Arts, in Newport. With one in six UK species now at risk of extinction, organisers say businesses of all sizes have an important role to play in protecting and restoring nature.

Whether operating from an office, shop, hotel, factory, or home, businesses can take meaningful action. The seminar will introduce the Isle of Wight’s local nature recovery strategy, and outline straightforward steps companies can adopt, from planting for pollinators to reducing light pollution, installing bird or bat boxes, or adjusting mowing regimes.

Ian Boyd, from The Common Space, said even small changes can have a big impact. “Simple changes to everyday business life and spaces can make all the difference to the survival of wildlife,” he said. “We have a plan on the Island that helps all sectors identify priority species and actions through the national local nature recovery strategy network. This dovetails with the Island’s Growth and Prosperity Plan, with a focus on nature‑based routes to employment and investment.”

The seminar is being delivered in partnership with the Isle of Wight Council, the Green Impact Scheme, and the IW Chamber of Commerce.

The session runs from 12pm to 1.30pm and is free to attend. To book a place, email Claire Hector at claire@thecommonspace.org.uk.
