West Wight celebrated the start of 2025 with Figmanay, a lively evening of music, storytelling, and laughter at Community Hall of Yarmouth and District (CHOYD). This 25th Figgy Gig milestone – marking a variety show that launched in October 2022 – was a heart-warming occasion, thanks to vibrant performances and an enthusiastic audience.
‘Magic Moments’ set the tone with their smooth standards, while host, Jean G-Owen, recounted fascinating New Year traditions from around the globe. Other highlights included singer-songwriter Westrop’s poignant original, Honourable Intentions, a reflective take on resolutions, and Janet Hopkins’ soulful delivery of Lyin’ Eyes. Emily Gillatt-Ball entertained the crowd with the clever poems about New Year promises and on-line dating. Spell-binding Holly Medland told tales of Na Nasreddin and The Graveyard, while ‘The Messed-Up Plucker’ brought hilarity to her set with All I Want for Breakfast is You. A special thanks goes to ‘2gether in Harmony’ for stepping in last minute with their incredible harmonies and ukulele artistry.
Closing the night, ‘Two For the Show’ had everyone rocking to classics Green Door and Under the Moon of Love.
The next Figgy Gig, themed ‘Beating the Winter Blues’, is on Friday, February 7. Contact Jean G-Owen at 07715 985689 for more details.
