Family fun based on agricultural traditions

Looking for a full family day out this summer? The Royal Isle of Wight County Show, on July 12 and 13, promises two jam-packed days of animals, entertainment and hands-on experiences at the Northwood Showground.

Firmly rooted in the Island’s agricultural traditions, the show offers families the chance to get hands-on with rural life. At the heart of it is the show farm, where young visitors can meet farmyard animals up close – and even watch a Briddlesford Farm cow being milked.

Elsewhere, The Sheep Show will be strutting its stuff with three daily performances of dancing sheep, and the Fun Dog Show invites entries across light-hearted categories, including ‘waggiest tail’, ‘dog most like its owner’ and ‘best rescue’.

Children can enjoy the thrill of vintage fairground rides, or hold on tight at the bucking rodeo bull, hosted by IW Young Farmers. The Village Green is another family hotspot, featuring face painting, balloon modelling, and live entertainment on the stage.

Spanning 37 acres, the showground also includes livestock displays, a packed main ring programme, Shetland ponies, the Grand Parade, and the Island’s only inland beach.

There’s also a Woodland Area, Food Pavilion, and the ever-popular WI Tea Tent.

Early bird tickets start at £12.50, with free entry for under-16s when accompanied by a paying adult. To find out more, visit www.iwcountyshow.co.uk.
