Have your say about run-down properties

Sandown Town Council is asking residents to take a look in a ‘dereliction survey’, to understand how the run-down properties in the town affect people’s lives, hopes and ambitions.

A council spokesman said: “We know that Sandown has a problem with derelict, damaged and demolished buildings, and long-term vacant plots and sites. Tackling these one at a time, with the limited legal and policy tools available, is very difficult, though we must continue to try.

“But gathering evidence of the whole effect of dereliction, on the experiences of the people who live, work and visit here, can be much more powerful as a tool to make change happen.

“Building a well-evidenced understanding of how these sites affect people’s daily lives, their own hopes and ambitions, and their sense of living in a ‘good place’, is essential if we are to attract the support and co-operation of regulators, the backing of government at every level, and the funding we need to take urgent and permanent action.

“The survey has been created to collect this necessary information and to properly represent the impact of dereliction on the community of Sandown. Please have your say!”
