Newport’s Utilita Energy hub is continuing to brighten January with its Warm Welcome Week, a campaign designed to turn the so-called ‘Blue Monday’ period into something far more uplifting.
The Island’s only high street energy hub launched its second Warm Welcome Week on Monday, with events and activities running until 25 January. The aim is to raise awareness of Warm Welcome Spaces – community venues offering warmth, company, and support during what is often the coldest and loneliest month of the year.
Hub supervisor, Dan Green, said the week was about helping more people find a friendly place close to home. “We’re taking ‘Blue Monday’ back by giving it a colourful makeover,” he said. “We’re asking everyone to wear warm colours – pinks, oranges, reds, and purples – to chase the blues away, and raise awareness of Warm Welcome Spaces. We don’t want anyone to feel cold or lonely this winter.”
The Utilita Energy hub provides free energy advice to anyone who needs it, and works closely with local charities including the Isle of Wight Foodbank and Pan Together. It also hosts regular community groups, such as u3a and Women on the Wight’s Knit and Natter, in its free to book community room.
Dan said the hub’s Warm Welcome Space was already making a difference. “People coming to our space say they always leave with a smile on their face. It’s a wonderful opportunity to connect with others, make new friends, and have some fun. A warm welcome is waiting just around the corner.”
The Utilita Energy hub is open Monday to Saturday at 121 High Street, Newport, with the team out on community outreach each Thursday.
