Alan Williams, born in Ryde 81 years ago and now living in East Cowes, has been honoured for more than three decades of exceptional service to the Royal Army Ordnance Corps Association. His outstanding contribution was recognised at the association’s reunion in Coventry, on Saturday, May 16, during a gala dinner attended by more than 350 members from branches across the country.
Alan founded the Isle of Wight branch 36 years ago, with fellow member, John Steele, who has since passed away. From the very beginning he has been its driving force — serving as secretary throughout, carrying the Standard, supporting members as welfare officer and, in countless unseen ways, keeping the branch active and connected. He has represented the Island at meetings both here and on the mainland, ensuring the branch remains firmly part of the national Association family.
Last year, Alan was chosen to represent the national association in the Garden of Remembrance at Westminster Abbey, where he had the honour of being presented to Queen Camilla — a moment he describes as one of the proudest of his life.
