More than 40 VW vans took part in a drive-out, from Seaclose, in Newport, to Fort Victoria, last Sunday.
The convoy consisted of members of the Isle of Wight Dubbers, a group formed five years ago, which now has around 2,500 members.
Founder, Mikey Lewis, said: “We originally started with just some friends and VW Camper Van enthusiasts, and it’s grown from there. We have a lot of members on the mainland but a good following over here.
“We set up the club for drive-outs and camp-outs, and we try and do as much as possible, especially when the weather warms up.
“For our latest drive-out, we started at Seaclose, drove out to Blackgang Chine viewpoint to regroup, and then moved on down the Military Road, onto Fort Victoria, where the height restriction barriers were raised so we could get through.
“There were 43 of us in total and, when we all arrived there, we virtually filled the car park. Most vans had two or three people in them, so there must have been about 100 of us. We finished with coffee and cake at Cafe Verdi to round-off a really good afternoon.”
The next drive-out is on March 29, starting at Seaclose at 11am, and going via Shanklin and Sandown, finishing at Browns Cafe at the golf course.
