By Isle of Wight ObserverThe suspect in a stabbing case has denied the charge at a first hearing in court.
Macauley Watterston, denied stabbing an 18-year-old man twice in the back on Friday (July 27) at Newport Magistrate’s Court.
The 23-year-old suspect from Laundry Lane in Newport has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
At around 12.30am on July 24 police received a report that an 18-year-old man had suffered two stab wounds to the back in the area around Love Lane and Windmill Close.
The Cowes man, was taken to St Mary’s Hospital for treatment where his injuries have been described as not life-threatening.
Mr Watterston will now appear before Isle of Wight Crown Court on September 3.
He has been bailed but will have to reside in the Midlands and can only visit the Island for court of legal appointments.
As part of police enquiries three other people were arrested:
A 23-year-old man from Carisbrooke has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and has been released from custody without charge, but remains under investigation.
A 23-year-old man from Newport has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of cannabis. He has been released from custody without charge, but remains under investigation.
A 23-year-old man of no fixed address has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent. He has been released from custody without charge, but remains under investigation.
