Cowes RNLI in triple rescue

Lifeboat crews from Cowes had a frightfully busy afternoon on day five of Lendy Cowes Week.

Described as “a bit like buses” Cowes RNLI were called the three shouts in quick succession on Wednesday (August 8).

The first call came at 1.43pm when they were tasked to racing yacht “Spider Pig” that had lost a rudder and was drifting towards the shore.

Then a Sonar Class day boat’s spinnaker became wrapped around the rigging – thankfully assistance was given by an associated rib and the rib towed the yacht back to Cowes but the RNLI were immediately re-tasked.

A 40ft yacht ran aground on the Bramble Bank in the middle of the Solent. The crew towed the yacht off into deeper water and then on to Cowes.
